Hiroko "Laurie" Kwong-Huber Obituary
December 24, 1932 - April 28, 2017 Laurie passed away in Woodland Hills, California after a brief illness with her sister and niece by her side. She was born in Santa Barbara, CA, the youngest of eight siblings to Ai and Inokichi Fukamaki of Japan. Except for internment in Gila Bend, Arizona during WWII and a brief stay later in Chicago, she remained a "California-girl" until her death. She worked for the City of Los Angeles for several years before joining a team at Blue Cross of California in Woodland Hills. After nearly seventeen years there, she retired in 2000. Always the life of the party, she lit-up any room she entered. Unfortunately, after having lost "Prince Charming," her husband Peter last fall, the candle began to dim. She can join him now and their dance can resume beneath another sky. She will be remembered for her dry humor and quick wit with people and, especially for her loyal, unwavering love of animals. She is survived by her loving sisters, Kiyo and Jean, many nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, valued friends and colleagues, and a step-son and his son, all who will cherish her memory. Inurnment will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California, with a Celebration of her life to be held in late June. Donations to her memory can be made to a favored animal-rescue group or your local ASPCA.
