Hitomi Stoney Miyamoto Obituary
October 1945 - September 2017 Hitomi "Stoney" Miyamoto passed away after suffering post-stroke complications on September 11, 2017, at the age of 71. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones. Hitomi was born on Amami Island, Japan, and raised in Osaka by her beloved aunt, Waka, brother, Hiroaki, and sister, Takako. She emigrated in her late teen years to Ridgecrest, CA, where she was reunited with her mother, Lilly, and stepfather, Leo. Her enduring nickname, "Stoney," was born during her high school years in Ridgecrest. Following high school, Stoney moved to San Francisco and began a career in the jewelry business. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Los Angeles where she met (ex)husband and later business partner and best friend, Kazu Miyamoto, and continued her long career in the jewelry business - creating countless formative and lasting friendships along the way. Stoney and her longtime friends, Victor and Ikuko Iwamuro, later opened Ryu Gifts & Décor in Studio City. At Ryu, the innate talents of this artistic trio flourished, and for many years, Ryu Gifts & Décor was a notable hotspot on Ventura Blvd. Throughout her life, Stoney was known for her striking artistic style and fashion sense. Surpassing her artistic nature, Stoney was vast in compassion, kindness, sincerity and generosity - not only towards her friends and family, but also towards those in need. Stoney especially had a soft spot for dogs and had big dreams of one day rescuing every dog on the planet. Stoney is survived by her brother, Hiroaki Hamazaki, sister, Takako Nishida, nephew, Satoshi (Mika) Nishida, cousins, Sumiko Tanizaki and Mike Miyanohara, her most precious fur-baby Coco and a multitude of those that loved Stoney and were loved by Stoney. The private family viewing was held at Fukui Mortuary on September 21. The graveside service, where her urn will be interred, will be held on Thursday, September 28 at 11am at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Avenue, Culver City. If you would like more information, please call Holy Cross Cemetery at (310) 836-5500.
