Homer B. Newman Obituary
December 18, 1921 - September 9, 2017 Homer B. Newman was born in Brawley, California, the son of Frank Newman, a Methodist minister, and Edith Bodley who had met while attending Stanford University. Homer attended Palo Alto High, graduating in 1939, and UCLA graduating in 1942. Upon graduation, he entered the Navy, serving on an LCT on D-Day. He married Bonnie Bobb in 1947. He is survived by his 3 children, Nancy, Michael and James, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 predeceased grandchild. Homer ranked among his major accomplishments being an Eagle Scout and his Naval service. In his last weeks, Homer said having, educating, and traveling with family were among his happiest memories, especially visits to Mazatlán with his children. Homer started his career with Citizens Bank and became head of the Beverly Hills Crocker-Citizens Trust Department, calling himself "The Country Boy from Beverly Hills." In 1969 he joined the law firm Dixon, Howell, Westmoreland and Newman, practicing estate planning, probate and trust law until 2015. He taught trust law, and served as President of the Westwood Bar Association. He was active at St. Paul the Apostle Church. He was a member of the Westwood Village Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and served as President in 1998/1999. After Bonnie's death, Homer married Madilyn Hutchens, who died in 1993, and Sally Burge who died in 2011. He deeply loved his wives in different ways. The Hutchens children, whose father had died, still affectionately call Homer "Dad". All who knew Homer were touched by his blue eyes, constant smile, calmness, patience, and encouraging positive words. While we all miss him, we all carry on his love with the happiest of memories, hoping to inspire others as he inspired all! A Memorial Mass and reception will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 10750 Ohio Ave., Los Angeles, CA, on Veterans Day, November 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Donations in Homer's name may be made to the Paulist Fathers, or St. Paul the Apostle Church, or the Westwood Village Rotary Club Foundation.
