Howard P. Goodman Obituary
July 3, 1923 - March 18, 2016 Howard P. Goodman passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 92 in Santa Ana, CA, surrounded by his family. He is survived by sons Marty (Lori), and Allan (Sue); and granddaughter, Samantha. He was pre-deceased by wife Edith (2008), mother Sonya (1983), father Allan (1958), and brother Mel (1957). Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Howard grew up in Brooklyn, New York, attending James Madison High School, then New York University. He bravely fought for our country in World War II as a medic and sergeant in Europe, earning silver and bronze stars and a purple heart. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Science and a Master's in Education at NYU, he worked for various advertising agencies in New York and Los Angeles, before embarking on a 30-year career as a junior high and high school teacher in Anaheim, CA. Howard moved to Southern California in the early 1950's where he met and married the love of his life, Edith, in 1955. Together they raised two sons, helped found and volunteer for Temple Beth Tikvah in Fullerton, and wrote and performed plays for charities. With his family, he travelled to Western and Eastern Europe, Israel and Africa, and they lived in England for one year while he taught at Wellington College near London. Howard later ran a speed-reading and comprehension clinic, and then a hypnotherapy center that helped clients break bad habits or change behaviors. He was a prolific writer, golfer, poker player, crossword puzzle solver (always in pen!), and had a great sense of humor. His loving family will miss him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (www.jwv.org). Alav Hashalom. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in the chapel at Harbor Lawn-Mt Olive Memorial Park, 1625 Gisler Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. www.harborlawn.com. (714) 540-5554.
