Howard S. York Obituary
January 26, 1923 - September 8, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Howard Stanton York at age 93. Howard passed away peacefully in his sleep after an illness. He was born to Jule and Louis York in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Howard was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Lois Sadja, and his brother-in-law and best friend, Elliott Sadja. Howard attended the University of Pittsburgh where he received his BA and Masters. During World War ll he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. In 1947, Howard moved across the country to Los Angeles. His first job was working at the May Company. After the May Company, Howard became the proud owner of a woman's clothing store, York's, in Santa Monica, which thrived for twenty-five years until he retired. Traveling and big band music was a passion of Howard's. Howard had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful storyteller. He often told very funny jokes, some which were quite earthy and risqué. Howard leaves behind a loving family, including nieces and nephews Lynn Sadja, Lee Sadja, Jill Otero, Nancy Sadja, and Richard Sadja and multiple grand/great nephews and nieces. Howard was an interesting and unforgettable man and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Private services will be held at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery.
