Hugh Donald Hagerty Obituary
October 23, 1924 - September 2, 2017 Hugh Donald Hagerty, affectionally known as "Bud" throughout his life, died peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 92 years of age. Born in Los Angeles on October 23, 1924 to Hugh and Lorena Hagerty (Cramer), Bud traveled far and wide during his lifetime, but loved Southern California the best. He grew up on its beaches becoming one of the earliest local surfers. Before there were rope-tows and chairlifts, he hiked up local snow-covered mountains with his skis on his back. Skiing became his lifelong passion and he skied well into his 8os. Another local passion of his was the Trojan football team. A dedicated fan since he was a young child, he returned from WWII to attend the university he loved on the GI Bill, graduating with a business degree in 1948. He was a devoted USC fan for the rest of his life as well as a generous contributor. Right after graduating from South Gate High school, Bud served his country honorably during World War II in the South Pacific and returned home a decorated veteran. He then married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Main, with whom he shared his life for almost sixty years. Raising four children together was the center of their lives. In his career, he started out as an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance and soon became an Insurance Manager. In turn, he helped many, many agents build their own careers. What Bud will be remembered for is his loving kindness and generosity-as a father, husband, brother, friend, neighbor and Insurance Manager. His bright blue eyes, warm grin and wonderful sense of humor brought much joy to many. One felt a better person just by knowing him. His spirit will remain alive in the hearts of his many friends and of his surviving family members: his son, Dennis, his daughters, Jeanette and Lynne, his sons-in-law, Stephane and Bo and daughters-in-law, Shelia and Gilda; his grandchildren, Erin, Kyle, Eric, Shelly, Shanna, Chandra, Winston, Fletcher and Juliette, and his great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Christian, Ethan, Madison, Cody, Shaylee, Evangeline and Brooke. He was preceded in death by his wife and eldest son, Michael. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 11:00 at the Center for Spiritual Living Capistrano Valley, 1201 Puerta Del Sol, Suite 100, San Clemente, 92673.
