Ida Mae Franklin Obituary
March 13, 1935 - January 9, 2018 Ida Mae Franklin, 82, passed away on the evening of Jan. 9, lovingly surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Known affectionately by her family as "Joe Mama" and "Grams," she was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted Christian. Born Ida Mae McLarnan in Medford, OR to parents Scott P. McLarnan and Betty M. Wheatcraft, the family moved to Des Moines, IA the following year, where she spent her childhood and graduated from North High School. In 1955 she moved to Hollywood on a whim with her best friend, Beverly. She married her former husband, William R. Franklin in 1957, with whom she had 3 children. After their marriage ended in 1970, she began work as a secretary at Universal Studios, where she stayed for more than 30 years, quickly moving up in rank to serve as the assistant to several of the studio's leading executives. She retired in 2004 to live at her home in Mission Hills, CA. She loved to travel and visited 40 countries, her favorite destination being Hong Kong. She had impeccable fashion sense and her home was beautifully decorated with art she acquired on her journeys abroad. She enjoyed visiting museums and theaters and attending Greek and Scottish festivals each year. She loved to dance and had a special affinity for world music by Greek, Moroccan and Latin artists. Her silly, sharp sense of humor, endearing cackle and beautiful smile never failed to light up a room. Her strong Christian faith was an inspiration to all and she lived her life with great purpose and duty to God. Ida Mae is survived by her 3 children, Rodney, Nancy and Bradley; 12 grandchildren; and great-grandson. A memorial service honoring her life will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills on Jan. 19 at 3pm.
