Ira Murray Brickell Obituary
December 20, 1932 - November 21, 2016 Ira Brickell was born in The Bronx. He was a wonderful combination of tough exterior and romantic heart, elegant and cultured, yet enjoyed telling a crude joke in the middle of a dinner party. A career "garmento" in the wholesale garment industry and looked the part in the finest of clothes, topped with a great hat and unlit cigar. He was a determined young man who put himself through college and graduated as an accountant. He joined the army, serving with the military police in Germany. He remained a proud American veteran throughout his life. Ira and his first wife Barbara, a sculptress, followed the sun to Los Angeles in 1970. Together they made a nice life for themselves and their two young sons. His stories about their time in Pietrasanta, Italy, an artist colony famous for its marble since the time of Michelangelo, gave insight into a man who had a genuine love for the arts and the adventure of travel. In 1988 Ira married his second wife, Rhoda, and they retired to Palm Springs to enjoy a life of golf, entertaining friends, and "kvelling naches" over their combined seven grandchildren. They were the envy of the dance floor at every party, welcomed an endless array of guests into their home, traveled throughout the world, and remained inseparable until his passing. Ira is survived by his wife, Rhoda Brickell, his two sons, Scott Brickell and Jeff Brickell, and his two grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Brickell. Services will be private per his wishes.
