Irene Pearl Farber Obituary
May 4, 1921 - November 17, 2016 Irene Gandel grew up in Minneapolis with her three sisters Norma, Sylvia and Esther and younger brother Earl. At 20 she joined the WAVES and moved to LA to work at the Hollywood Canteen and Paramount Pictures. She met and married Nat Farber, a musical arranger for television. They had one son, David. In midlife, Irene began teaching English and Journalism at Sylmar High School, where she taught for the next 17 years; her school newspaper many awards. Upon retirement, she was active in Malibu, teaching English to migrant workers, editing Point Dume Club's newsletter, and participating in Beyond War and other organizations. Irene was an unabashedly honest and unexpectedly progressive thinker. She had a sharp wit and an independent streak, but she was generous and fun. She will be deeply missed. Funeral 10AM Sunday, November 20, at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, 5950 Forest Lawn Dr.
