Irma Heller Obituary
September 15, 1918 - July 29, 2016 Irma Heller (nee Scher) of Rancho Mirage, California, was comforted by loved ones as she passed away peacefully at her home on July 29th, 2016, at the age of 97. Irma was born in New York in 1918 and moved with her parents and siblings to Los Angeles when she was nine years old. As a young girl, she enjoyed music and was very good at the violin. At age 16, Irma met the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Heller, and the two were married in 1937, when Irma turned 18. While Chuck was a successful business man, he was often wild, impulsive and adventurous and Irma was an ideal match with a healthy dose of caution, concern and practicality. The two celebrated 78 years of marriage, and Irma was by Chuck's side when he passed peacefully earlier this year. Together Irma and Chuck had three loving children -- Brian Heller, Eileen Rodgers and Sherry Heller -- as well as seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Irma was the matriarch of her family and the center of so many parties and activities. When her children were young, she enthusiastically planned birthday parties and sleepovers at the Heller home. Irma loved to cook and entertain, and her home was constantly filled with laughter. She made everyone feel welcomed. Above all, Irma was deeply nurturing and always put family first. Her warm heart and belief in doing the right thing made her beloved by so many. This was clearly evident at the celebrations that Irma and Chuck would have for anniversaries, birthdays and holidays. Irma and Chuck's caregivers were so wonderful and loving in their final years, the family will be eternally grateful. It was because of Irma's optimistic and self-less nature that she was endlessly surrounded by loved ones. Her kindness to others was truly exceptional. She will be dearly missed. A private service was held at Mount Sinai, Hollywood Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to metugo.com.
