Irving Daniel Ogner Obituary
1928 - May 14, 2018 The story goes he was the first person to take out a full page in the Los Angeles Times just to advertise his first used car dealership. The very next day, he sold every single car on the lot and with no hesitation, re-stocked within 24 hours and then yet again, sold every car. But he was also the type of man who, at 63, rode through an orchard while standing on the bicycle seat using no hands. Irving was a vigorous, vital and creative man who pursued work and play with gusto and determination. Irving Daniel Ogner, 89, of Thousand Oaks, California, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks. Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Samuel and Ruth Ogner, Irving lived most of his life in Los Angeles, California. One of the early and enduring car dealers in Los Angeles, he began with used cars which he sold on his parent's front lawn at the end of World War II. He continued with two used car dealerships, and becoming noteworthy, moved on to new car dealerships for Chrysler, Volkswagen and Porsche-Ferrari. Irving was proud, as he deserved to be, of his 60 year career in the automobile business. Though his life in business was essential, Irving thrived while playing A-level tennis and trick water-skiing for most of his adult life, and threw himself, headfirst, into every athletic endeavor. He had a creative urge that he followed at different times of his life, mostly expressing whimsy and his playful spirit. Irving is survived by his wife Petra of 28 years, son Josh, daughter Melissa, son Robert (Deborah), granddaughter Jessica (Zachary) Alexander and great-granddaughter Indigo, and grandson Levi (Zoe) Ogner and great-grandson Emmet, and a large loving family of Step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Greg, Sarah, Maya, Zoe, Mason and Colton. Irving's brother Stanley and middle son Richard, preceded him in death. Irving was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend to all. He will be missed dearly. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 16th, 3:00 pm at Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery, 5950 Forest Lawn Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90068. For additional information regarding the celebration after the services please call Robert Ogner (818)706-9525. Family requests donations in Irv's honor be made to Alzheimer's Foundation America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
