Jack Dennis Obituary

February 7, 1923 - December 9, 2013 Jack Brooks Dennis, long time resident of Hancock Park, died peacefully in his home on December 9, 2013 at the age of 90. He was born Jack Burton Brooks on February 7th 1923 in Detroit, MI. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margo (Coghlan) Dennis and by his son Michael. He was preceded by his sons Matthew and Stephen. He is also survived by his grandsons Brendan, Gianni, Weston and Jake and his granddaughters Jayde, Daisy, and Isabella. He attended Beverly Hills HS and graduated with an economics degree from UCLA. During WWII, he was a navigator and ensign in the US Navy. He was active in the Rotary Club of Los Angeles and also with the American Foreign Legion. He was an avid boatsman and sailor and enjoyed working on his boat (the style being a Monterey and the name being The Angel). His passion for fishing and diving at the Channel Islands was surpassed only by his love of his wife and family. His legacy will be that of a good steward in all things of which he was entrusted and as an excellent provider and husband. He was generous to those in need and was always quick with a joke and a smile. When asked how he was doing, he often replied, "if I were any better, it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the world." He was cremated (as per his request) and his ashes will be spread on the ocean at one of his favorite dive spots (Frog Rock, Catalina). In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Rotary Club of Los Angeles in Jack's name is suggested.
