Rabbi  Jacob PRESSMAN Obituary
October 26, 1919 - October 1, 2015 With great sadness, we announce the passing of Rabbi Jacob Pressman, 95, husband of Marjorie, father of Rabbi Daniel (Helen Tieger), Joel z'l and Judy, and grandfather of Aliza (Craig Chosiad), Benjie (Melissa), Rebecca, Elijah and Aviva, great grandfather of Batsheva, Avital, and Nathan. Rabbi Pressman died peacefully in his sleep on October 1, 2015. As the long-time leader of Temple Beth Am, Rabbi Pressman touched the lives of many and continues to do so through his namesake, The Rabbi Jacob Pressman Academy. The Philadelphia-born "Rabbi Jack," has been a pillar in the community since he and his beloved wife Marjorie arrived here in the late 1940s. He served Temple Beth Am for 35 years, producing the nation's largest campaign for Israel Bonds. He was the first registrar of the University of Judaism (now AJU), and a founder of Camp Ramah, Los Angeles Hebrew High, and Akivah Academy. Pressman helped to create the "Save Soviet Jewry" movement and in 1965, joined 293 Californians who walked with Martin Luther King Jr. in Montgomery, Alabama. Funeral services will be held on Sun. Oct 4 at 10:30am at Temple Beth Am, 1039 S La Cienega Blvd. Interment will be at 1pm at Eden Memorial, Mission Hills. Shiva details are posted at www.tbala.org.
