Jai Won Cho Obituary
October 6, 1939 - January 7, 2017 Jai Won Cho, 77, passed away January 7, 2017 peacefully in his home in Los Angeles, California surrounded by family. Jai Won was born October 6, 1939, to Pil Dae Cho and Ok Ran Kim, in Jangjin-gu in South Hamgyung Province, Korea, the eldest of six children. He grew up in Seoul, survived the Korean War, and graduated from Yongsan High School. He received his bachelor's degree in architecture from Hanyang University in 1964 and emigrated to the United States in 1969. In 1978, he completed the Master in Planning degree at the University of Southern California. He eventually opened his own firm Chang-jo Architects based in Seoul. An accomplished architect, he is responsible for some of Seoul's earliest skyscrapers, including the World Trade Center (COEX) in Seoul and the LG Twin Towers. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sang Sook; his daughter Rana and son-in-law Matthew Small; his daughter Dana and son-in-law David Webster; his daughter Anna; grandsons Ewan, Aaron, and Haedan, and granddaughter Aila; his siblings Rochi, Ami, Jae Woong, Roa, and Aran; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends. A funeral service was held January 12, 2017 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, and burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family suggests donations be made to The Parkinson's Institute and Clinical Center in Sunnyvale, CA in honor of Jai Won Cho. The family of Jai Won Cho wishes to extend sincere thanks to caregivers Ashley Lee and Charin Alicda.
