James MacGeorge Obituary
October 9, 1928 - January 16, 2021 James Andrew MacGeorge passed away on January 16, 2021 at age 92. He was born in Seattle, WA on October 9, 1928 to Thomas Hamilton MacGeorge Sr. and Margaret Marriott MacGeorge. He and his brother Tom attended Ronald Elementary School, then Lincoln High, where the brothers played various sports, excelling in golf and basketball. Jim went on to join the Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) fraternity at the University of Washington. He found his love of entertaining, making people laugh and in 1949 left Seattle for Los Angeles to pursue his lifelong career. It was there that he met Victoria Utica Loranger and they were married on March 7, 1964. Jim's career spanned the decades of his life, entertaining into his late 80's. He entertained troops on USO tours alongside Bob Hope. He provided voices for cartoons such as Beany and Cecil, early Flintstones, Bionic Six and was a writer on many like Duck Tales and the Jetsons.Jim was most famous for his nearly perfect impersonation of Stan Laurel alongside his partner Chuck McCann as Oliver Hardy. They made several memorable Anco windshield wiper commercials in the 1980's for which they received a CLIO Award, recognizing innovation and creative excellence in advertising, design and communication. In March 1986 they teamed at the Academy Awards to present for Best Live Action Short Film at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. That same year they were featured in Life Magazine under the title "New Stars: Old Posters".Jim moved to the stage as Stan Laurel in Anthony Newley's musical "Chaplin", which starred Anthony Newley as Charlie Chaplin. Stan Laurel was Chaplin's real-life understudy and became Jim's personal friend in later years.Jim's standup comedy routine reflected his love of golf and he was a frequent entertainer at major golf tournaments across the United States. Jim was predeceased by his wife Vicki in 2003. He is survived by his nephews, Steve MacGeorge and his wife Lisa, Bill MacGeorge and his wife Linda and niece Pam Lee and her husband Jim. He also leaves Vicki's son Duane Loranger and many friends including Morgan Weistling and family and caregiver Sylvia Adams.He will be forever remembered for his motto: "Keep on Smiling!"
