James And Jerry Beattie Obituary
June 2016 James V. Beattie and Jerry L Beattie, died in June, 2016 in Clarksville, AR. Jim passed away on June 16 and Jerry shortly after on June 30. They had been married 66 years. He was born on July 25, 1928 in Hastings, Iowa. His family moved to Los Angeles, CA. in 1929, later settling in El Monte where Jim attended high school. Jim served in the Navy from 1947-1951 as a teletype operator aboard the USS Pasadena and the USS Manchester. Shortly after he and Jerry were married his enlistment was extended 1 year due to the Korean War. After serving in the Navy he worked in the oil fields near Taft, CA. and as a route manager for a San Gabriel rubbish company. His last employment was with the Los Angeles Times for 26 yrs in the Transportation Department from 1964 to 1990. He retired with numerous safe driving awards. Jerry was born on Nov. 25, 1932 in Waverly, KS. She moved west with her family settling in El Monte where she attended high school and met Jim. Jerry served for many years on the Women's Council and on other church and school committees at Epiphany Catholic Church in So. El Monte. In 1990 , following Jim's retirement, they moved to Clarksville to be with Jerry's mother and enjoy their retirement years. Jerry was active in the Johnson County Extension Homemakers Council. She served on many committees and was the Johnson County EHC President for the 2001-2002 term. They were preceded in death by Jim's parents, Bertha and Edward Beattie; sister, Velma Bennett and by Jerry's parents, Earl Hile and Reva Dotson; step-father Vesta Dotson; brother, Donald Hile; and their grandson Kenneth Beattie. Together they are survived by their son Mark and his wife Liz, grand children; Robert Beattie and Jennifer Baiocchi and her husband Chris, along with great-grandson, Colin. James surviving family includes brothers, Bill, David, and Robert Beattie; sisters, Phyllis Wiggins, Beverly Nevill, and Dorothy White. Jerry's surviving family includes brothers, Larry and Dal Hile; sister, Sandra Reddell, and step-sister Jeanette Kelley. Jim and Jerry were loved by all who knew them and are greatly missed. Burial was at the Fort Smith National Cemetery in Ft Smith, Arkansas.
