James Asher Weiss Obituary
June 9, 1927 - May 21, 2016 Surrounded by family and friends, James Asher Weiss passed away peacefully in his Palm Desert home. Jim was a resident of the San Fernando Valley for over 60 years and enjoyed sports - football, baseball and the ponies, as well as his life with family and friends. He was born on June 9, 1927 in Philadelphia, to Irv and Rose Weiss. He moved to California when he was 14 years old but his Philly roots stay embedded his entire life. He was a die hard Phillies, Eagles and USC Trojan fan until the end. He went to college at USC, and was a member of ZBT. While at USC, he met the love of his life Gerry. They were married on May 10,1958 in Chicago. Jim was a great salesman, and sold textiles to women's wear manufacturers. Jim and Gerry had three amazing daughters - Marcia, Michele and Liz, three beautiful granddaughters - Melissa, Laura and Leah, and one great-grandson - the awesome James. Jim and Gerry were very social and entertained family and friends always. Jim had an incredible sense of humor and adventure. They traveled with family and friends around the world, and shared their special spots in New York with all who wanted to join in. Jim was a huge fan of the horses and traveled to some great spots around the world to watch them run. He went with friends and his son-in-law Steve to the track and OTB. Jim had a full life - filled with lots of love, and will be missed by his family and friends. Jim's family has requested that anyone wishing to make charitable donations in his memory to: The Troung Neuroscience Institute. 9940 Talbert Avenue #204, Fountain Valley, CA 92708. His service will be Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City at 10:00 am, followed by a celebration of his life at Tommy Bahamas at 73595 El Paseo in Palm Desert.
