December 30, 1928 - November 22, 2015 James Franklin Isbell was born December 30,1928 to Jesse Franklin Isbell and Katherine Mae Crump Isbell in Little Rock, Arkansas. Upon graduation from high school, James (Jim) received a scholastic scholarship to Columbia University (NYC). As a sophomore he rowed on the varsity crew. He then enlisted in the USAF and served as a radar technician (highest rank T/SGT). With the GI Bill available, he resumed his college work, this time at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He received the BSEE in 1955 and accepted a job offer from Hughes Aircraft Company in Culver City, CA. where he happily remained for his entire career. He received the MSEE from the University of So. California in 1965. Jim, who served primarily as a system engineer for advanced airborne weapons systems and radars, and as a manager of engineers performing such duties, retired in 1984 with 29 1/2 years of service to Hughes and spent another 5 years in a part-time consulting role. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Norma Isbell, née Enger. He is also survived by Norma's nine nieces and nephews and and eight grand nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Jim dearly. Jim Isbell will be remembered as one of the kindest, most generous men and will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. His love and devotion to his wife Norma was an inspiration to all who knew him. He died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, Sunday evening, November 22, 2015.
