James W. White Obituary
November 25, 1945 - January 26, 2018 Born and raised in Limon, Colorado, to William and Katherine White. After graduating high school, Jim attended one year at Colorado University before joining the Army in 1966. He served most of his enlistment in Mannheim, Germany. After the Army Jim worked for KWGN in Denver, Colorado, doing the on-air midnight news, and as a weekend News Photographer. Photography was his passion, so he soon was shooting news full time. In 1971 Jim was runner-up for TV Cameraman of the Year, in the National Press Photographer's Association competition for TV cameramen. This lead to him being recognized by WSB in Atlanta, where he worked from 1971 to 1979. While at WSB Jim in 1974 was awarded an Emmy by the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, Atlanta Chapter, for his work on a children's documentary. In 1979 he joined the NBC family and worked for Network News until his retirement in 2005. During his time at NBC he covered several presidential candidates, did many stories for Dateline, and the Today show. While covering President Ronald Reagan, Jim was there when the President was shot, and got the footage of John Hinckley being arrested by the FBI. He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years Judy, sons Randy & wife Misti White, Jeff White, grandchildren Gage White, Blair & husband Chance Gallo, Austin White, & Baylee White, sister Debbie & husband Bob Phillips, and nieces Tiffany Brown and Jennifer Radil. He was loved and will be missed by many. Final resting will be private. Donations in his honor can be made to: Pet Adoption Fund 7507 Deering Ave. Canoga Park, CA 91303 www.petadoptionfund.org
