Jane Alyce Hilgendorf Obituary
December 5, 1941 - March 26, 2016 Jane Alyce Hilgendorf passed away peacefully at her home in Corona del Mar on Saturday, March 26, 2016. She is now in the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ and with her family members and friends who preceded her in death. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 5, 1941 to Elmer and Paula (nee Berger) Hilgendorf. Her early years were spent in Wauwatosa, WI. Her family moved to Pasadena, CA in 1949. She graduated from Pasadena High School (1959); Pasadena City College (1961); and UCSB (BS in Physical Education in 1963). She later received an MS in Physical Education from UCLA (1967). Jane is survived by her brother Don Hilgendorf of Irvine and sister Judy (Don) Johnson of Peoria, AZ. She is also survived by her niece Michele (Wayne) Evans and sister-in law Susan Hilgendorf of Franklin, TN, and nephews Scott (Lisa) Johnson of Goleta, CA and Bradley (Beverly) Johnson of Santa Barbara, CA. Her brother Dan Hilgendorf preceded her in death. Jane was very athletic, and she made this both a big part of her life and her career in education. In 1970, she joined the Physical Education Department at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, remaining there until her retirement in 2001. She had an accomplished record in coaching and administration. She coached the women's volleyball team from 1973-1990, winning state titles in 1978, 1980, and 1982. Her teams won five conference championships and advanced to the playoffs 15 times. Her career record was 233-100. She was Assistant Athletic Director from 1991 to 1998 and became Dean of the Physical Education Department and Athletic Director from 1998 to 2001. Jane loved her Corona del Mar neighborhood, where she lived for 42 years, and the many close friendships she made there. Golf was a big part of her life. She enjoyed her membership at Newport Beach Country Club and her many friends there for over twenty five years. She was a faithful member of Lutheran Church of the Master in Corona del Mar. A memorial service celebrating the life of Jane Hilgendorf will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Concordia University Irvine (Concordia University Center building) at 2:00 PM.
