Jane Ryoko Yasukochi Obituary
June 18, 1924 - January 24, 2017 Our beautiful mother, Jane Ryoko Yasukochi passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 24 in Carmichael, California, at the age of 92. Born in Salinas, she was raised in the Salinas Valley by her parents Seiko and Sumiye Kato. Like a number of other Japanese-American girls, Mom spent her teen years in Japan where she was sent for a secondary school education, but she was lucky to return home on one of the last ships from Japan before the Second World War broke out. While she spent the war years with her family interned in Poston, Arizona, she eventually met her future husband, Fred Morio Yasukochi, following his combat duty in Europe with the highly decorated U.S. Army 100th Infantry/442nd Regimental Combat Team. After their marriage in 1946, the two began a family and farmed throughout North San Diego County. In 1961, the family moved to Ventura, where Mom and Dad lived for most of the remainder of their lives. There, our mother was active in the Oxnard Buddhist Church Fujinkai, and the Women's Auxiliary for the Community Memorial Hospital. Later, she took up golf and delighted in playing with Fred and the family at Saticoy Country Club and around the world. Mom always showed love and devotion to her kids, and was a cheerful face to all who knew her, even in her final days. She reveled in spending time with her grandchildren, bragging about them, and watching them grow up. Jane was preceded in death by our dad in 2009. She is survived by her daughter Dale; and her sons Fred Jr. and his wife Claudia Gilman, Dennis and his wife Lynne Goodrich, Bruce and his wife Cathy Wilson, and David and his wife Colleen; and her eleven grandchildren: Therese, Joshua, Emily, Ellison, Rachel, Bryan, Risa, Rosie, Cayla, Robert and Jayson, and her loving sister Fumi lba, as well as many nieces and nephews. Though saddened by her death, we are all very grateful to have had such a wonderful mother and grandmother. There will be a memorial service for Jane on Friday, February 24, at 10 a.m. at Vista Buddhist Church, 150 Cedar Rd. #B, Vista, California, under the direction of Fukui Mortuary, www.fukuimortuary.com, (213) 626-0441.
