Janet Louise Linthicum Obituary
January 13, 1960 - January 7, 2016 Janet Linthicum died peacefully in her sleep early the morning of January 7 after a seven year battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease. She devoted her life to predatory bird (raptor) research and was instrumental in saving the peregrine falcon from extinction, due to DDT intoxication, late in the last century. The efforts of Janet and her associates in the Predatory Bird Research Group were so successful that the falcon was removed from the endangered list on August 29, 1999. She was recently awarded the Tom Cade award for her efforts on behalf of the falcons and was the author or co-author of 15 scientific papers. While on the staff of the University of California at Santa Cruz she was also involved with the satellite tracking of bald eagle migration patterns, feeding the endangered California Condors in the field, and following the decline of the burrowing owl population. She is survived by her parents, Dr. Fred and Jean Linthicum and two older brothers and families
