Janet Noriko Saisho Obituary
November 21, 1928 - August 5, 2016 Janet Noriko Saisho was laid to rest at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier on Saturday, September 10. Born to Sankesa and Suma Kawahata in Lompoc, she is survived by her nieces and nephews from the Kawahata and Saisho families. After graduating from Kersey High School in Colorado, Janet moved to Los Angeles where she graduated from college and married Giro Saisho in 1952. Janet worked at El Camino Real High School for almost a decade. A tireless civil rights advocate, she became a Senior Advocate for the San Fernando Valley Japanese-American Community Center. With the passage of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, Janet was lauded for her coat-to-coast lobbying on behalf of those who were initially denied redress. With her late husband, Giro, Janet enjoyed their many trips to Japan, Switzerland, Paris, New York, Louisville, Miami, Toronto, Chicago, Seattle, Little Rock, El Paso and Dallas. Janet passed peacefully in Thousand Oaks on August 5.
