Jason Murphy Obituary

January 17, 1983 - September 20, 2017 Celebrated Pepperdine alumnus, genius improv actor, native Texan and 15-year Angeleno, Jason Murphy, age 34, was found dead in the LA River at 2am on September 20, 2017, near N. Avenue 19 and the Figueroa Bridge. He'd taken the Metro from NoHo Station just before midnight and disembarked at Lincoln/Cypress, possibly Heritage Square Station. A proud 10-year SAG member with three national commercials on air at the time, he was walking home after attending the premiere of a movie he had a small role in at the NoHo Laemmle 7. Jason was a boldly loving, buoyant, extraordinarily giving and hilarious comedic actor and he'd never been happier in his life. Jason and his wife were newlyweds and had returned from their honeymoon two weeks prior. LA County Coroner's Office lists cause of death as an "Accidental Drowning" occurring in the up-and-coming Elysian Valley area adjacent to the chronically under-policed crime zone of Cypress Park. Jason is survived by his parents and brother, his wife and dogs, and the entire acting community of Los Angeles. A private vigil commemorating the one-year anniversary of Jason Murphy's death will be held September 20, 2018. Donations can be made to: Estate of Jason Murphy, 2658 Griffith Park Blvd., Suite 108, Los Angeles, CA 90039.

The loss of Jason is painful and it will be hard at times trying to express to others how you really feel. Those who love you understand and will be by you to help you through this most difficult time. (Proverbs 17:17)
