Jean Ann Voss Oxley

Obituary Condolences

May 13, 1927 - July 29, 2015 Jean Ann Voss Oxley was born on May 13, 1927, in Superior, Wisconsin, to W. L. Voss, Jr. and Maxine Voss, and passed away in Encino, California on July 29, 2015. She attended St. Catherine University in Minneapolis/St. Paul, and graduated in 1949 with a B.A. in English. Jean married E. O. (Larry) Oxley on September 1, 1951, in Harvey, Illinois, and they moved to Southern California in 1956 to raise their family. She worked for many years as a secretary in the fledgling aerospace industry in Orange County as well as a legal secretary to an attorney in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. No one enjoyed a good game of cards or a well-written novel more than Jean, and she was an active member of the same bridge and book clubs for decades. She was legendary for her brownies, her crossword puzzle-solving prowess, and her sharp sense of humor, and was an ardent Angels baseball and Notre Dame football fan. A parishioner and church volunteer for more than 30 years, Jean regularly attended 4:00 p.m. mass on Saturdays at St. Cyril's Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry; her brother, Bill Voss; and her son-in-law Sean Toerner, and is survived by her children Carol Brill (Barry), Kevin Oxley, Chris Oxley (Nancy) and Paula Toerner; her sister, Jackie Voss Olivanti; her grandchildren Megan, Jeremy, Tera, Justin, Bill and Georgie; and many devoted family members and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Church, 15520 Ventura Blvd, Encino, CA 91436, with a reception following at the church. The family thanks everyone for their support over the years. Memorial donations can be made to St. Cyril's or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
