Jean Higa Nakama Obituary
July 5, 1940 - November 5, 2016 Jean Nakama, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, niece, cousin and dear friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Camarillo, CA on November 5, 2016 after a two year battle with cancer. She was 76. Jean was the fourth of seven children born to Frank and Kaneko Higa in Long Beach, CA on July 5, 1940. She attended Citrus High School for three years and was the proud member of the first graduating class of the newly established Azusa High School in 1958. During her Senior year, Jean was a Junior Varsity Cheerleader, Secretary of her Senior Class and was awarded Outstanding Athlete from the Girls Athletic Association. She had fond memories of her high school years and was later active in planning numerous reunions. After high school, Jean worked at Aerojet General Corporation in the accounting department. She met and married Charles (Chas) Nakama. Together they established a farming business initially located in Glendora, CA. After 20 years, the business was relocated to its current base of operations in Oxnard, CA. Jean raised her family in addition to working full time managing the daily operations of the family business. She had three children, Karyn Rene (deceased), Lynda Jean and Rick Charles and was active and involved in all aspects of their school and extracurricular activities. She loved golf, reading, travel and spending time with her grandchildren. Jean is survived by her husband, Chas Nakama of Camarillo, Lynda (Nakama) Havard of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Rick (Kendra) Nakama of Camarillo, CA; grandchildren Brayden Nakama, Marcus Havard and Brooklyn Nakama; brothers Bob (Karen), Roy (Kathy) and Dennis Higa; sisters Mae (Ken, deceased) Hirakami, Lily Higa, and Nancy (Jerry) Ikehara. Jean also leaves her beloved Auntie Sada of San Dimas, CA, Uncle Tak of Beaverton, OR and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her family would like to express their gratitude for all of the people who supported her and gave her comfort during her final weeks of life, especially her team of doctors and nurses at UCLA. A Celebration of Life in honor of Jean Nakama will be held at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, CA 93012 on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. with burial services immediately to follow.
