Jean William Horton Obituary
December 20, 1942 - August 29, 2016 Jean William Horton, 73, Sacramento-born resident of San Marino, passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2016 after a bicycling accident. Jean is survived by his two especially beloved women: his wife of 42 years, Ann and his daughter, Christine. He is also survived by six brothers, four sisters and extended family. He was a graduate of the Great Books program of St. Mary's College, Moraga, CA and of Columbia University School of Business. Between college and graduate school, he spent three years in the U. S. Army as an officer in the Corps of Engineers, primarily in Germany. He was in command of large military equipment maintenance companies. After his MBA, Jean began his career in public accounting in New York. He worked for three years on accounting policy in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington. Returning to New York, he joined and became a partner in the audit practice of Coopers and Lybrand. When time permitted, he was also Adjunct Professor of Accounting at the Columbia Graduate School of Business. After several years of working with large not-for-profits (primarily in the arts) and the financial services industry, Jean transferred to the Los Angeles office and assumed leadership of the regional financial services practice. By the time he retired as a senior partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers, he had become a national office consultant. He was always deeply committed to the classical music community, having served on the boards of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pasadena Symphony and until his death, The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Yarlung Records. He was a great supporter of his wife's stone collecting habits, a dedicated father, an avid biker, an excellent craftsman, a loyal friend and the definition of a renaissance man. Instead of gifts to the family, please consider donating to one of the following organizations in his memory: The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, , The Gardens of the Huntington Library or the Geology Department of the California Institute of Technology. The family is planning a memorial service. Cabot & Sons, Pasadena Directors.
