Jerome Benjamin Jansen Obituary
January 26, 1926 - September 17, 2016 Jerome (Jerry) Benjamin Jansen, born in Olivia, Minnesota on January 26, 1926, passed peacefully on September 17, 2016 in New Orleans surrounded by his loving family. Our dad grew up in the Great Depression, and starting at the age of eight, he would drive the family dairy truck to deliver milk each day before school. After high school he entered the Naval Pilot Training Program during WWII, When the war ended, the GI bill allowed him to matriculate at the University of Minnesota, where he played on the football team. As an adult, trained as a mechanical engineer, he worked at the Carnation Company for 25 years as an executive. and later as an entrepreneur in the food processing industry taking him to Iowa, Wisconsin, California, Illinois and Massachusetts. Early in his thirties he married Mildred Ann Thelen and for 52 wonderful years showed his three sons the value of hard work, honesty, integrity, and a truly loving marriage. Dad was always an avid golfer, a passion he passed on to his three sons. He loved serving the homeless community, ushering Sunday mass, the family recipe "Jansen barbecued chicken", a good glass of wine, travel, the Green Bay Packers, and a boisterous debate over the dinner table. He is survived by his three sons Paul, David, and Daniel, and eight grandchildren: Benjamin, Madeline, Nicholas, Grace, Jackson, Tyler, Will, and Ella. The service will be at 9:30 am on October 1 at St. Bernadine's Catholic Church 24110 Calvert Street, Woodland Hills California. In lieu of flowers please send donations in his honor to http://stbernadine.org. To view and sign the family guestbook, please visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
