Nee Johannsen, 102, at home in Torrance. Born and raised near Edmonton, AB, Canada; graduated Nursing University of Alberta in 1936; moved in 1937 to Southern California.
Jo worked in various hospitals, specializing in obstetrics at Cedars of Lebanon and St. John's maternity wards. Joined LA School District as a school nurse (1953-1978).
Known for her love of flowers, hats, and her French Poodles. Active member of the Ebel Club (beads/crafts and fundraising). Charter Member of LA Orthopaedic Hospital's Legacy Society in recognition of her generous support and involvement with the Children's Service League.
Predeceased by parents Ernst (1916) and Julianna (1963), sister Lydia (1977), brother Bill (1998) and husband Otto Snell (1975). Survived by great-nephews Gary (Bob) Gahr and Lee (Patricia) Gahr, great-great nieces Lydia and Janika, and many neighbors, friends, acquaintances and strangers she touched over the years through her kindness, generosity and cheerful approach to the world around her.
A life of service to others - a life well lived.
Visitation Friday, Sept. 11, 3 to 8 p.m. at Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary, 3801 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood.
Funeral Saturday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. at Chapel of Chimes, Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 E. Florence Ave. Inglewood
