Joan J. Theodore Obituary
April 2, 1919 - December 25, 2017 Joan J. Theodore passed away peacefully of natural causes on the evening of December 25, 2017, at the age of 98. She was born on April 2, 1919, in Trinidad, Colorado, to Abel and Elizabeth Koeppler Cordova. She was the eldest of 8 children. The family later moved to Los Angeles, CA. Joan was a strong woman, and was dedicated to her family. Her devotion to family had its roots early in her life while, as the eldest, she helped to raise her 7 siblings. Her ambitious and outgoing nature were seen in high school, where she was active as a baton twirler. At age 17, she worked as a cashier at the corner convenience store. During WW II Joan worked at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as a Turret Lathe Operator making parts for the P-51 Mustang, and, later, as an Office Manager at Yor-Way Markets in Glendale, CA. In the 1970s, Joan bought and operated a beauty shop in Culver City, CA, named 'Jacques Beauty Salon', from which she later retired. Joan married Gerald J. Theodore in 1940 in Los Angeles, where they started their family and raised four sons. Joan was a very devout Catholic. She was very active at her son's school, serving on the school PTA. She enjoyed social get-togethers, reading, cooking and teaching her grandchildren how to cook and bake. She was all smiles hosting tea parties with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed flowers and was especially fond of roses. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting afghans, always making certain that each member of the family had one of these treasures. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Theodore in 2010 and her siblings, Robert, Albert, Jack, Sally & Jimmy. Joan is survived by her 4 sons, David and wife Carol, Raymond and wife Gail, Richard and John; eight grandchildren: Debbie Sidebotham, Carrie Theodore, Laurie and husband Danny Trojacek, Tina Courtney, Derek Theodore, Jennifer and husband Tim Sullivan, Johnathan and wife Marisol and Susie Theodore; eleven great-grandchildren: Kyle, Kelly, Sarah, Hannah, Beau, Lana, Tara, Ryan, William, Maximus and Finley. She is also survived by her sisters Rosella Berg and Pearl Lind. Visitation and Mass of the Christian burial and interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 5835 West Slauson Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230, on Friday, January 5, 2018, beginning at 9:30 am. Joan will be missed, and her loving and generous spirit remembered by many. Her soul is with God, but her memory lives in our hearts. Rest in Peace, "I LOVE YOU MORE!"
