Joan Jeanette Lewis Obituary
December 27, 1930 - January 29, 2017 Joan, a resident of Ventura, CA, passed peacefully at the Cottage Board and Care at age 86 of congestive heart failure, in the loving arms of her daughter and the wonderful staff and Assisted Living Hospice nurses who took such good care of her during her stay. She was born in Putnam, Oklahoma and attended Kansas University, where she met the love of her life, Philip Lewis (who passed in 2010). They moved to California and she continued her education after their daughter Janet was born, eventually getting her master's in Counseling Psychology. After several years working for the LA Superior Court, she landed the job she dearly loved, as counselor at California State University at Los Angeles, working with students and running therapy groups. She thrived working with students and formed lifelong bonds with many of them and her colleagues. Once she retired she moved to Sacramento and busied herself with book groups, tutoring, and rocking babies in the neonatal unit at the hospital in Sacramento. Joan is survived by two sisters, Marlene Phillips III and Nancy Weist and their spouses, as well as her nephews Scott and Jamey Phillips, and her daughter Janet Lewis. Her memorial will be on Saturday, March 18th in Ojai at Meditation Mount at 1pm. Please come celebrate her life with us. There will be a shuttle at Bocali's Restaurant to take you up the hill if the parking lot is full.
