Joan Mary Stephan Obituary
April 10, 1929 - January 16, 2016 Joan Mary Stephan, née Jebaily, born on April 10, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York to Sir George and Mary Jebaily, passed away peacefully at her home in Los Angeles on the evening of January 16, 2016. Joan attended Georgian Court College in New Jersey, studying Music. Her parents were involved in the garment industry in New York. Sir George was a notable supporter of the Maronite Church and the Lebanese community in the United States, and a papal knight of St. Gregory the Great. Joan Stephan was married in 1949 in Our Lady of Mount Lebanon Church in Brooklyn, New York, to Edmond Anthony Stephan. They moved to Southern California in the early 1950s. Joan and Edmond were involved in the building boom of the 1950s, constructing new homes in Ontario, Santa Ana, and, later, in Los Angeles and Palm Springs, California. Joan is survived by her devoted husband Edmond and three children, George James Stephan (Debra), Paul Edmond Stephan (Carol), and Diane Stephan Merriman. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and extended families in several states. Joan was involved in numerous activities, including 35 years as a member/board member of the Holy Family Adoption Guild, as a member of Mission Doctors Charity for over 30 years, as President of the Mother's Club at Our Mother of Good Counsel School, and as a member of Wilshire Country Club. Funeral Mass will be at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, located at 2060 N. Vermont Avenue in Hollywood, on Friday January 22 at 4:00 p.m. Graveside service will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, located at 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in Los Angeles, on Saturday January 23 at 10:00 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Our Mother of Good Counsel Church.
