September 22, 1923 - August 10, 2016 Joan Sherry Miller, 92, was born on September 22, 1923 in Pasadena, California to Josephine Rust and Leroy Sherry, a noted physician. Her twin brother James Sherry, resided in Saratoga, CA, until his death in 2001. Joan attended the Westridge School for Girls in Pasadena, graduating in 1941. She enrolled in Pasadena City College, graduating with an Associate's degree in 1943. She later matriculated at Bennett Junior College in Millbrok, New York for a year. Joan wed Richard Clarke Miller in 1947. Following their wedding, the Millers moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Richard attended the University of New Mexico. Joan completed her Bachelor's degree in English from UCLA by correspondence course in 1951. The couple was married for 65 years, until Richard's death in 2012. Following their return to California, the Millers settled in San Marino, CA, in 1952 and raised their four children. The family began boating in 1959 as members of the Los Angeles Yacht Club, and took many trips along the coast of California and Mexico. Joan and Richard spent their later years boating, motorhoming, and traveling. In the late 1980's, the Millers built their dream home in Ventura, and moved there in 1991. Joan is survived by her children Cass Adelsbach, Margaret Nardizzi, Caroline Lieber and Richard C. Miller, Jr.; her grandchildren Terry Adelsbach, Mike Adelsbach, Blair Connolly, Molly Lieber, Rachel Miller and Kyle Miller, and great-granddaughters Molly Adelsbach and Emma Adelsbach. The family plans to have a small private service to celebrate her life. Please no flowers.
