JOHN A. AKOURIS January 7, 1934 - June 25, 2012 John Akouris a man of many diversified talents; super salesman, movie aficionado, gourmet cook, avid reader, and great raconteur passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012 of congestive heart failure. He leaves behind the love of his life, Elaine, his wife; and only child, Arthur Jon Akouris. He and Elaine were childhood sweethearts at Calumet High School in Chicago, Illinois and were married 56 years. After high school, John attended University of Illinois - Navy Pier. He was born in Chicago to the late Katherine and Arthur J. Akouris. In addition to his wife and son, John?s survivors include his brother Harry Akouris and many family members. In 1976, an opportunity called so he relocated to Malibu, California as Sales Manager for Westec Security Systems, the premier alarm company in Southern California. His sales team set high standards to ensure the security of thousands of homes, primarily on the Westside of Los Angeles. Many movie celebrities and captains of industry were among John?s special clients. He continued to secure families and homes with Moore Protection until his retirement in 2010. John loved talking about restaurants and considered himself an unofficial Los Angeles critic, eager to discuss his latest "find" to all of his friends and acquaintances. Another quality was his ability to discuss the current movies; WOW did he love the movies. He was an extremely generous man, great "tipper" and always willing to help. John's finest hours were spent with friends, talking, telling jokes, laughing and he was usually the life of a party. He was one of a kind! John loved people, dining, traveling, driving, reading, and enjoying life. After his retirement, he became a docent at the Petersen Automotive Museum, guiding visitors through the museum, and sharing his vast knowledge about the automobiles on display. He always imagined himself behind the wheel of one of the sleek and fast cars. Services will be private. A celebration of his life is being planned for a future date. Donations may be made to the Petersen Automotive Museum, 6060 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036.
