John Alfred Griffin, 93, passed away on July 15, 2015 at his home in Dove Canyon, CA surrounded by his family. He was born on June 6, 1922 in Glendale, CA to Judge Charles and Myrtle Griffin. John grew up in Beverly Hills, CA. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1940. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. After the war, John attended the University of Southern California and was a very proud Trojan. He then went on to the Southwestern School of Law where he received his J.D. degree. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1952. John practiced law in Beverly Hills and Orange until his appointment to the bench by Governor Ronald Reagan in 1973. He served on the bench at the Laguna Niguel Municipal Court until his retirement in 1985. He continued to serve as a private mediator for many years. John married Claire Louise Holguin in 1950 in Los Angeles, CA. They were happily married for 65 years. John is survived by his wife, Claire, his two daughters, Elena (Burke) and Tina (Lenz), and their husbands, John and Paul, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
