John Francis Garvin Obituary
September 10, 1926 - January 1, 2018 Much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, father-in-law, and friend to many, John Francis Garvin, Jr. passed away New Year's Day 2018.  The world has lost a truly great and compassionate man. John spent much of his life helping others and always had a willing hand for those in need. He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Torrance, CA, to John Francis Garvin and Emeline Catherine McCann, later attended high school at Saint Anthony's Seminary in Santa Barbara and remained an active servant of the Lord throughout his life. He served as a chaplain's assistant in the US Army during World War II and later graduated from Loyola University in Los Angeles, then went on to Loyola Law School, passed the bar and was a practicing attorney for more than 40 years. In 1952, he married Helen Elizabeth Lauerman, and in 1961 they settled in Northridge, CA, where they raised their five children.  He was active in his parish and the Knights of Columbus. John was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Lousen and Ramona Devaul, and his daughter Lisa Marie Garvin Holman. John will be dearly missed by all who knew him but in particular by his wife Helen, and his children: Jeff Garvin (Marie), Suzanne Shea (Bill), Karen Ruelas (Raul) and Monica Hillman (Phil), and his adored grandchildren: Trevor Garvin; Amanda and Michael Shea; Dominica, Christian, and Joseph Ruelas; and Matt and Danielle Hillman; and Thomas Lord. John's Funeral Mass will be said at Saint Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Westlake Village on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m.
