John G. Morris Obituary
August 24, 1928 - January 31, 2017 John Gideon Morris II, loving son, husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on the morning of January 31, 2017. John was born in Laredo, Texas on August 24, 1928, to John Senior and Hannah (Deutschman) Morris and raised with his two younger brothers in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas, he moved to Los Angeles in his early twenties. He took a position as a stockbroker at Sutro & Co. in Beverly Hills, where he had a long and successful career. Soon after his arrival, he married and started a family with his first wife, Eileen. Following the end of his first marriage, John met Betsy, the love of his life, and married her in 1974. Together, they raised his four and her four wonderful children in a loving and lively household. In the spirit of their union, their house was continually filled with love, laughter and a bounty of family memories. With the welcome addition of 12 grandchildren, sons- and daughters-in-law, and many extended family, this tradition continued until his passing. John will be remembered for his passions of cooking, music, gardening, and photography. His generous nature and sharp sense of humor were appreciated by all who were close to him. His dedication to his family and his Faith were a large part of his life. John was predeceased by his parents, his two brothers Tom and Robert, his first wife, and his beloved son Joseph (Pepe). He is survived by his loving wife Betsy, his children: John III, Patrick, Elizabeth, Melinda (Mimi), Mary, Sara, and John; 12 grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and close friends. A celebration of life for all who knew and loved John will be held at Saint Brendan Church, 310 South Van Ness Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90020, on Monday, March 27 2017, at 11AM.
