John Joseph Catalano Obituary
November 13, 1929 - January 6, 2017 Born to Santino & Mary Catalano in Lockport, NY, his immigrant parents worked hard to raise him during the depression years. Their faith, values, fidelity, traditions and family life gave John confidence, wisdom & love which he shared generously. In so many simple yet profound ways, he enriched and affirmed others. John attended Jesuit schools and embraced their communication style of intelligent brevity: Canisius High School in Buffalo, NY and Loyola University in Los Angeles. When West Covina High School opened, he was among the original staff, first teaching science and later joining administration as principal for 20 years. After retiring in fall 1984, John continued to teach, volunteer, and encourage his students, family & friends. The joy of his life was winning the heart of Anita Reusch whom he married on September 6, 1952. In over 64 years together, they raised five children: Maria, Anne, James, Joan & John; ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. John & Anita lived their vows to love and cherish through good times and challenges. In the last months of 2016, his health declined and John died gently of heart failure. We already grieve the loss of his unconditional love, strong spirit, smart advice, and reassuring voice. Services will be held at St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Glendora: Rosary & remembrances on Tuesday, January 10th, 7:30 PM and Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 11th, 10:30 AM. Donations in John's honor may be made to Active Blind, Inc., PO Box 1946, Glendora, CA 91740 to support education & independence of the blind.
