John P. "Jack" Poyer Obituary
April 13, 1924 - August 28, 2015 Jack passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family and caregivers. After service in WWII (US Army, 10th Mountain Division, Italy), he returned to Los Angeles, where he married his high school sweetheart, Marie Catherine Lombardi, on August 25, 1945. Together, they raised their ever-growing family. He operated a multi-parking lot operation and various automotive service businesses in downtown Los Angeles in the late '40s through the early '70s. In the years thereafter, he ventured into a successful real estate partnership with commercial properties in Los Angeles and La Jolla. He had a special passion for thoroughbred horse racing, food-filled family gatherings, story-telling and was successful in personal financial investing. Jack and Marie were both born and raised in Los Angeles, remained devoted to their Catholic faith, and were lifelong volunteers and donors to various Church charities throughout their lives. Jack was a family man and close friend to many with whom he crossed paths in his 91 years of life. With him throughout his life journey were: his wife, Marie (predeceased), his surviving sister, Margaret Trembley, and his 14 children: Tom (Margie), Nancy, Margi (Larry) Munson, Patty (Tom) Broesamle, Doug (Kathy), Kathy (Bob) Shamberg, Joe (Becky), John (Ellen), Michael (Chris), Jim (Peggy), Mary (predeceased), Paula (John) Sheehan, Matt (Kathy), and Suzanne; their 35 grandchildren: Erin (predeceased), Caryn, Patrick (Amme), Joe (Kelly), Brian (Marissa), Megan (Dominic), Rob, Matt (Gina), Eric (Niki), Katie (Charlie), Jennifer, Kevin (Michelle), Shelley (Beau), Heidi (Chris), Thomas Jr., Ryan, Tessa (Derek), Kelly, Meghan (Scott), Amy, Timothy (Morgan), Kimberly, Michael (Rachel), Ashley, Christopher (Carrie), Mark (Christina), Emily, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Allison, Jamie, Molly, Jack, Grant, and DJ; and his 21 great-grandchildren: Cameron, Galatia, Colin, Brian, Isaac, Nathan, Brodie, Rowan, Tyler, Gavin, Addison, Jack, Benjamin, Ellie, Hollis, Kaitlyn, Haley, Everett, Sara, Henry, Avery; and extended family: Chris, Ryan, Kyle, Tammy (Kyle). Vigil Rosary will be held at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church, 15520 Ventura Blvd., Encino, CA 91436 at 7 PM on Thursday, September 3rd. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cyril's at 10 AM on Friday, September 4th, with Interment to follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
