John Quincy Tabor Jr. Obituary
June 1, 1921 - January 18, 2018 John Q. Tabor, Jr., formerly of Los Angeles, CA, died in Las Vegas, Nevada at age 96. He was born in Los Angeles to the late Ella Gertrude Williams and John Q. Tabor, Sr., and was raised in Venice, California. He achieved the Eagle Scout rank in 1936 and attended the Boy Scout Jamboree in Holland in 1937. He graduated from Venice High School in 1939 and attended SMCC, La Sierra College and USC. He was the first Black lifeguard on L.A. City & County Beaches from 1942-47. He was a chemical engineer from 1948-69, and his key projects were the Navy A-Bomb and Saturn Lunar Orbiter Propulsion on the Apollo Man on the Moon Project. After leaving the chemical engineering field, he opened his own business selling sporting goods. He is survived by his three children, Allyson (Robert Erlich) Tabor; John Tabor; and Meredith (Kurt Johnson) Tabor; by a sister, Frances; and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Anne, his second wife, Gisela, and his sister, Evelyn. He will be buried at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles at 10am, June 23, 2018.
