John Richard "Dick" Bergen Obituary
August 23, 1924 - February 19, 2016 John Richard "Dick" Bergen of Burbank died at home on Feb. 19th surrounded by close friends. He was 91. Dick served as a Navy pilot in WWII, where his heroism earned him the Silver Star and Purple Heart. His military experience greatly impacted the rest of his life. After the Navy, Dick started a career of more than 40 years in the insurance field; he was Vice President of Underwriting at Fremont Indemnity Co. in L.A. when he retired. He loved to mentor young people and help them make successful careers. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, he attended Rutgers University. He loved tennis, travel, politics; He championed for the disadvantaged and cared for his beloved animals. He will be greatly missed every day by those who knew him. Dick was predeceased by his wife Nellie and son Jeffrey Bergen. He is survived by his children, Jane Elyea and Phillip Bergen. There will be a memorial luncheon in April.
