John Simon Gottlieb Obituary
August 9, 1937 - December 25, 2017 John Simon Gottlieb (1937-2017) passed away at his home in Los Angeles, California. John was born in Chicago, Illinois, the eldest son of John O. Gottlieb ("the Colonel"), and Elizabeth Simcox. He graduated from Highland Park High School and attended the University of Florida, Miami. In Florida, John began flying small private aircrafts, which became his passion. John served in the Air National Guard from 1959-1965. He met his future wife, Joann Hara, while she was a freshman at Northwestern University. They were married at Temple Beth Israel in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1961, and settled in Los Angeles, California, where John went to work in family-operated laundries. John then started his own automobile transport company, Port Terminal Transport, operating out of the Ford Motor Company Long Beach Assembly Plant. He subsequently acquired Consolidated Convoy Company, which became one of the largest automobile transport companies in the western United States. In 1988, he sold his company to the Ryder Corporation, where he was retained as an executive. He formally retired in 1999. John enjoyed entertaining and spending time with his family and friends, and will be remembered as a loving husband, a dutiful father, a supportive older brother, and, above all, a warm and kind man. John S. Gottlieb is survived by his wife Joann F. Gottlieb, his brother Daniel M. Gottlieb, sons Jonathan J. Gottlieb and Alex H. Gottlieb, and daughter-in-law Mira E. Gottlieb. Funeral services will be held January 3rd at Hillside Memorial Park.
