August 23, 1928 - August 14, 2015 August 23, 1928 - August 14, 2015 August 23, 1928 - August 14, 2015 Joseph Gerson was born 8/23/28 to Esther Grifkin and G. Gerson, who escaped Czarist Russia, to New York City, eventually settling in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. Joseph was a self-educated man of lively intellect and passion, who embodied the entrepreneurial spirit. He was a brilliant businessman, and was imbued with progressive values and with curiosity. Joseph explored inwardly and traveled widely. He was a lover of fine art and good jazz. He and his former wife Lora Gerson once flew to Amsterdam for a weekend to catch the definitive exhibit of Vermeer's works. Joseph experienced joy in his life. He served honorably in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Samuel Gerson and Abraham ("Helen") Garabedian; his niece Melinda (David Harris) Garabedian, Phd., and leaved his wife Maritza Gerson from whom he was separated. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 30 10 AM at Hillside Memorial Park. Malinow and Silverman Mortuary
