March 28, 1925 - August 4, 2016 Joseph passed away peacefully from a lengthy illness at his home in Culver City with his beloved wife, Hilda (whom he married in 1993) and Nurse Theresa at his side. He is also survived by loving children, Rev. Rosalyn Bruyere (husband Ken Weintrub) of Sierra Madre, CA, and Dennis (Mimi) Bruyere of Paramount, CA; brother Jack (Irma) Bruyere of Ogdensburg, NY; sister Rosalie (Bill) Roberts of Southampton, NJ; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter, Donna (John) Needham; 5 brothers: Robert, Patrick, George, Emile and Jean, and 5 sisters: Eva Shurtleff, Mary Doe, Bernadette Thrall, Alice Jackson, and Theresa Lalone. Joe was born in Ogdensburg, NY, son of the late Oliver and Bella (Gauthier) Bruyere and stepfather, Thomas Fortin. Joseph joined the US Navy during World War II. He worked for 32 years as a telephone technician at Verizon, and previously at GTE. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Chapel at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., Culver City, CA 90230. Interment will follow.
