July 23, 1930 - May 30, 2016 Born in Roswell, New Mexico on July 23, 1930 to Homer and Rheba Guinn, JOYCE G. WOHLWEND "Joy," passed away peacefully at the age of 85 after a courageous battle with cancer on May 30, 2016 in Dallas, Texas surrounded in love and prayer. Joy's family moved to Northern California at the beginning of World War II, graduating from Vallejo High School in 1948. Secondary education continued at UCLA graduating with a BA Degree in Elementary Education in 1953. Joy was married to the love of her life for over 60 years, Wells K. Wohlwend, who preceded her in death on March 7, 2015. Joy and Wells met at UCLA where Joy was a member of Alpha Phi sorority, they married July 24, 1954. After graduation, Joy was an elementary school teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District for five years. She retired to rear son, Jeffrey (1958) and daughter, Janette (1960). Joy was always active in volunteer service and support with groups including: President of Alpha Phi Jr. Alumni, Assistance League of Southern California and member of Jr. Auxiliary of Assistance League and Valley Debs of San Fernando Valley; Life Member of the Volunteer League of San Fernando Valley, Alpha Phi UCLA Collegiate Chapter and Rush Advisor, Member of UCLA Gold Shield, UCLA Los Donas, Life Member UCLA Affiliates; Life Member of UCLA Alumni Association; Life Member of Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge L.A. Chapter; and proud member of the DAR (Daughters of American Revolution). Joy was also a Life Member of the College of the Desert Women's Auxiliary, Member of the Living Desert, The Muses of McCallum Theater, Panhellenic of Coachella Valley, UCLA Club of the Desert; and Life Member of World Affairs Council of the Desert. After Joy and Wells moved from California to Dallas, Texas to be closer to family, Joy was an active member of the World Affairs Council of Dallas and the Bent Tree Literary Club. Joy loved her husband and family, always involved lovingly in their lives. She enjoyed travel, music, spectator sports and people oriented activities. Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Wells K. Wohlwend. Joy is survived by her son Jeffrey Lee and wife T.J., daughter Jan Wohlwend True and husband Mike. She is also survived by two wonderful grandchildren, Kimberly Joy Cycon and Garrett Lee Wohlwend.
