Joyce Jean Virnala Obituary
March 27, 1933 - October 1, 2015 Joyce was born to Emil & Lydia (Wakkinen) Virnala on their farm in New York Mills, MN. She attended Country school at District 110 South through the 4th grade. When the schools were consolidated, she attended 5th through 12th grades in town. After graduation in 1951, Joyce went to Chicago IL where she worked as a secretary at various companies including Motors Insurance Co. (division of GMAC), The Toni Company (division of Helene Curtis) and The Edward H. Weiss Company, an advertising agency. When the Weiss Co. decided to open a branch office in LA, Joyce moved there in October 1958 to assist. When that branch closed, Joyce was hired by the Reader's Digest West Coast advertising branch where she remained until the birth of her only child, Eric. She was called back to Reader's Digest in 1970 and worked there until retirement in June 1995. In retirement Joyce enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling (including two trips to Finland) and spending time with her precious grandchildren. At times she could be coaxed into sketching, drawing and doing crafts. Left to celebrate her life is her son Eric, his wife Ann Marie and their children Shane, Trevor and Janelle Marie, plus numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
