Joyce R. Bregman Obituary
November 2, 1935 - June 27, 2017 Teacher who Aced life - Joyce R. Bregman - mother of three, passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her children, at 81. Marching to the beat of her own drummer, being a mother was Joyce's passion. Joyce married a wonderful man who became a great friend after their divorce, and they raised their three children in partnership, two boys and a girl. Joyce was always "going and doing," having fun, and giving her kids her ideal childhood. Joyce's teaching skills at inner city elementary schools were legendary; she worked only when she wanted, and was welcomed even hours late for caring for her own kids. Joyce later obtained her Master's degree in counseling and became an "active listening" aficionado with a focus on "feelings." Never like "the other mothers," Joyce moved to Venice before the neighborhood was trendy, traveled with her kids by herself all over Europe, Mexico, Israel and the U.S., and stocked only "health foods" in her kitchen (no cans or mixes of any kind, thank you) long before grocers recognized "organic" as a category. Joyce traveled the globe. With her impish grin and disarming "bumpkin" persona, Joyce engaged strangers and talked to everyone wherever she went; people would tell her anything and seemingly everything. Joyce lived an exuberant and blessed life. Joyce is survived by her three adult children, Tom, Jerry and Cindy, her ex-husband Herb, daughters-in-law Janet and Jenn, son-in-law Alex, grandchildren Sarah, Liora, Madeleine, Winston and Hudson, nephew and niece Billy and Karen Rouse, and close friends including from childhood. Donations are welcomed in Joyce's honor to the ASPCA.
