1936 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
April 29, 1936 - May 15, 2017 Former Guam native Juanita Taitano Norris, 81, went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2017 with family members by her side. Juanita had resided in Maine since 2012 at Falmouth by the Sea Nursing Home, Falmouth, Maine. A memorial service was held Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Rice Mortuary, Torrance CA. Her remains were interred at Riverside National Cemetery where her husband of 61 years, Melvin L. Norris, USN-Ret. will one day be laid to rest with her. Juanita was born on April 29, 1936 in Agana, Guam to Miguel and Catalina Taitano. She graduated from George Washington High School, Guam in 1954. She married Melvin on December 1, 1956 on Guam and spent the next 22 years traveling around the world (S. Carolina, Cyprus, Morocco, Washington DC, Guam, Germany, Florida) during his naval career. At each duty station she was active with her church as a deaconess, choir member and teacher. Through the years she spent time volunteering in Boy/Girl Scouts, organizing birthdays, and raising her grandchildren. As a career-preschool teacher, Juanita was awarded a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) in recognition of outstanding work with young children. The credential was awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington DC, which represents the early childhood education profession. Juanita's tireless energy, her love for the Lord and dedication to family will always be the hallmarks of a life well-lived. Her family with forever love and remember her. Mrs. Norris is survived by her husband Melvin, Los Angeles CA; 4 brothers, Mike, Bobbie V., Thomas, John; 4 children, Mark, Sandra, Laura, Leonard; and 4 grandchildren, Shaun, Bryan, Dakota, Waverly. Donations may be sent to Hospice of Southern Maine.
