Judith B. Leff Obituary
September 19, 1940 - February 14, 2016 Judith B. Leff of Encino, California, left her family and friends on Sunday, February 14, 2016, surrounded by her husband and children. Judy was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on September 19, 1940, the second daughter of Phillip and Bessie Tanowitz. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Los Angeles, where she grew up surrounded by a large extended family and many life-long friends. After graduating from Los Angeles High School in 1958, Judy found the love of her life, Sol Leff. Judy and Sol were married on July 10, 1960. Over more than 55 years, their love grew stronger each year as their family expanded to include 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Judy was passionate about life, and all who knew her saw her uniquely kind, gentle, and positive spirit. Throughout her life, she enjoyed an active social life with her friends, including playing tennis, pan, and mah jongg. But she was most passionate about her family, and especially her husband, Sol, with whom she traveled, played golf, and laughed. She was so proud to have raised her three children with Sol, teaching them what love, marriage, and being a parent looked like; and encouraging them each to find their own happiness. Judy always had a glowing smile, especially when she talked about or spent time with her grandkids. Each of them knows how special they were, in their own way, to their grandmother. Judy will be missed by her husband Sol; her three children and their spouses, Karen & David Rosenberg, Sheri & Peter Miller, and Marc Leff & Elin Petersdottir; her grandchildren and great grandchild, Ben, Jake, Matt, Abby, Michael, Jason, Caitlin, and Cooper; her sister, Marcia Silverstein; and all her dear friends. Service will be held at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills, Fri. Feb. 19, 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Hummingbird Society and to the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles.
