Julia Louise Scholten Obituary
May 1940 - September 2017 Julia died after a short, but rapidly progressive illness, at the age of 77. Following her diagnosis she approached each day with courage, strength and determination. She was born and raised in Modesto, California, by her parents Menno and Gertrude Scholten. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Norma Hammond and brother-in-law Richard "Dick" Katen. She is survived by two sisters, Greta Katen of Clovis, California, and Nancy Bancroft (Alan) of Modesto, California, and seven nieces and nephews. She spent her vacation time with family or on exotic trips, traveling all 7 continents and 50 different countries, and bringing home a love of art, food, and culture. She had a gift for making everything she touched more beautiful. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Women's Circle, the Handbell Choir, and served as Deacon of St. Andrew's Redondo Beach. She also volunteered at Torrance Memorial Medical Center and at the Beach Cities Health District.
